Road surfaces in the Guildford area are still causing problems.

Some of the damage may have been caused by the abnormal amounts of rainfall in recent months which has, in turn, caused standing water to lie and when temperatures have dipped below 0°C become frozen. Freeze-thaw action can be a powerful erosion force.

One added risk that the uneven surfaces creates is that to cyclists who to avoid potholes have sometimes to suddenly change direction. One cyclist said: “I hope drivers understand why it is necessary to do this and give a wide berth when over taking.

When I was at a meeting the other evening, someone who lives in Cabell Road asked about the road repairs. At the moment a lot of patching work is being done to repair the sub-surface which has been in a very poor condition. The resident questioned why the road is being left patchy.

I have been assured by the Surrey County Council engineers working on the project that once the sub-surface has been repaired, the whole of the section from Barnwood Road to Pond Meadow will be resurfaced.

Once the repairs and resurfacing has been completed, I hope that the road will go from being one of the worst in Guildford to the best.
