Local winery Albury Estate has won two awards from the 2018 International Award for Organic Wines.

The awards competition saw 28 countries submit over 1,000 organic wines to a jury to judge. It is claimed that the event has become one of the most important tastings in the wine sector.

Albury Estate, a family-run vineyard situated just outside just outside Guildford on the A25 towards Dorking, aims to combine organic and biodynamic principles to produce successful wines.

This year, their Blanc de Blancs 2016, a white wine “with aromas of pears and apples accompanied by a touch of gooseberry and a floral character”, won the TOP GOLD International Organic Wine Awards.

Their Classic Cuvée 2015, a sparkling wine from a cuvée of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, was awarded a gold too.

The Wenman family, who created the business, is thrilled with the results. Visitors are able to taste the award-winning wines at the vineyard every Saturday from 11am to 4pm.

In a press release, they added: “The vineyard will host an opera on August, 5 and we recommend people quickly book their tickets as we have just released some extras.”

Now Albury Estate is hoping for another award this year from the Surrey Life Food & Drink Awards.
