Surrey police have released further information about the emergency road closure that was put in place in Guildford yesterday (November 6) as they dealt with what they described as “a concern for safety” in Egerton Road.

They said today (November 7) that the “concern for the safety” involved a girl at the location. Officers liaised with her and she was safely removed from the area, the police said.

The incident had started at around midday. A number of officers attended the scene and Egerton Road was closed in both directions between the Cathedral Roundabout and the Tesco Roundabout. Traffic backed up along The Chase.

The slip road on to the A3 northbound carriageway from Egerton Road was also closed. There were long delays along the A3.

By mid afternoon, the roads had been reopened.
