A man was taken to hospital by air ambulance in a critical condition on Sunday afternoon (October 12) after a firework went off at an address in Cedar Way, Bellfields, Guildford.

Emergency services turned up at around 3pm after receiving reports of “a concern for safety,” police said.

Nearby homes were evacuated for several hours as police set up a 50-metre evacuation zone “as a precautionary measure”. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team attended the scene to confirm the safety of the area.

A police statement said: “We appreciate that this incident will have caused concern to the local communities, but please be reassured that at this stage we don’t believe there to be any third party involvement.”
