Members of the public are being invited to “Meet the Executive” at Guildford Borough Council.

The event is to be held at 5pm on Tuesday evening, in the council chamber in the council offices at Millmead, is being organised by the Conservative group. A scheduled meeting of the Executive will follow.

One member of the Executive, who did not wish to be named, said: “Fundamentally, this is to show that we are a ten person Exec, not two.”

“It is possible that planning will be high on any agenda, but we can all talk about that.

“The hope is that it will be polite and informal, with a range of subjects aired.”

It is anticipated, that after a brief general introduction, members of the Executive will be positioned at separate tables, so members of the public can speak to them individually.

It is understood that some members of the Executive are hoping to meet those who send comments on The Guildford Dragon NEWS face to face.

Executive responsibilities are: Paul Spooner – council leader, planning and regeneration; Matt Furniss – deputy leader, infrastructure and governance; David Bilbe – economic development and tourism; Richard Billington – rural economy, countryside, parks and leisure; Philip Brooker – housing and environment; Geoff Davis – special projects and social enterprise; Graham Ellwood – licensing and community safety; Michael Illman – finance and asset management; Nikki Nelson-Smith – social welfare, heritage and the arts; Iseult Roche – Project Aspire, health, safeguarding and sport.

“Fundamentally, this is to show that we are a ten-person Exec, not two,” says an unnamed Executive member.

Wow! I thought that Guildford Borough Council is controlled by Messrs Spooner and Furniss, the “dynamic duo”. So there really are others in the wings.

This is a big chance for us to ask the “shadows” questions about The Village disaster, Local Plan, Dongying “partnership” and many more issues.

Let’s hope the eight give us more sensible and honest answers than we get from the two.

Millmead on Tuesday at 5pm is the place to be and the eight extras from the Executive for the people to meet.
