Tomorrow, Friday May 20, the EU referendum will be debated at the University of Surrey by politicians of national standing.
Douglas Carswell, the well known sole Ukip MP, and government minister Anna Soubry, a frequent panel member on BBC’s Question Time, will be speaking.
Although not open to the public the debate is to be webcast between 19:00-21:00. There will be live-stream coverage available via the Student Union’s website www.ussu.co.uk and via Facebook on www.facebook.com/surreyunion.
Guildford’s MP, Anne Milton, has organised the debate, one of a series, in collaboration with the University of Surrey Students’ Union
There will be a chance for students and staff to hear from a panel of speakers from each side of the debate, and the audience will be invited to ask questions.
Ms Milton will chair the evening event with the following speakers representing both sides:
Anne Milton said today: “For all of those who can, please do watch this debate online. I hope it will help you become properly informed on the very important voting decision with which we are all faced.
“Both Douglas Carswell, the only Ukip MP, and Minister of State Anna Soubry are front and centre on the leave and remain campaigns. We are very lucky they have agreed to come to Surrey.”
Following the debates that took place in Cranleigh last week, Ms Milton is organising further debates to take taking place in Guildford. Announcements about those are expected next week.
The EU referendum will be held June 23.
