Guildford’s flagship entertainment venue, G Live, has a new director, Christina Horsepool. Christina joins G Live after nine years at Trafalgar Theatre in London’s West End, where she began in administration before working her way up to become general manager in 2022.
“G Live is a really exciting venue and the team has been so lovely and welcoming,” Christina told The Guildford Dragon NEWS this week. “In terms of the operation of the building, they know exactly what they’re doing, and I’m here to support them.
“What I’m keen to get going on is: what is this venue’s identity? Because G Live is such a flexible space, sometimes what it means to come here, or perform here, can get lost. I’m excited how we can firm up what that identity is.”
With big-name acts booked far in advance, Christina’s first goal is to develop G Live’s café and its day-time programme. “That’s going to be driven by the community offering.
“It could be scratch nights with local drama students, or orchestral quartets in the café on a Friday lunchtime. The building is open from 10am, and that’s when we have the chance to do new things. We want to fill the diary as much as we can.”
Now in her sixth week in post, Christina also hopes to engage with the wider arts community in Guildford, including the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Electric Theatre and Guildford Shakespeare Company. “Regional theatres exist to engage their community.
“Now I’m settled here, I can start meeting people and discussing cross-pollination with other venues. There’s so much potential here, and the team are amazing. We already have so many great ideas. The next few months will be an opportunity to try things out and see what people like.”
