Guildfordâs flagship entertainment venue, G Live, has a new director, Christina Horsepool. Christina joins G Live after nine years at Trafalgar Theatre in Londonâs West End, where she began in administration before working her way up to become general manager in 2022.
âG Live is a really exciting venue and the team has been so lovely and welcoming,â Christina told The Guildford Dragon NEWS this week. âIn terms of the operation of the building, they know exactly what theyâre doing, and Iâm here to support them.
âWhat Iâm keen to get going on is: what is this venueâs identity? Because G Live is such a flexible space, sometimes what it means to come here, or perform here, can get lost. Iâm excited how we can firm up what that identity is.â
With big-name acts booked far in advance, Christinaâs first goal is to develop G Liveâs cafĂ© and its day-time programme. âThatâs going to be driven by the community offering.
“It could be scratch nights with local drama students, or orchestral quartets in the cafĂ© on a Friday lunchtime. The building is open from 10am, and thatâs when we have the chance to do new things. We want to fill the diary as much as we can.â
Now in her sixth week in post, Christina also hopes to engage with the wider arts community in Guildford, including the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Electric Theatre and Guildford Shakespeare Company. âRegional theatres exist to engage their community.
“Now Iâm settled here, I can start meeting people and discussing cross-pollination with other venues. Thereâs so much potential here, and the team are amazing. We already have so many great ideas. The next few months will be an opportunity to try things out and see what people like.â
