And from November 6 to 27, there is a free exhibition of Sime’s work, entitled Bridging Fantasy Across Time, at the New House Art Space gallery, Bedford Road in Guildford.

The gallery, that houses a great deal of work by artist Sidney Sime (1865-1941) is within Worplesdon Memorial Hall.

He lived and worked in Worplesdon for the last 37 years of his life.

His widow, Mary, left a sizable amount of her husband’s work to the parish of Worplesdon and the gallery opened in 1956.

Sidney Sime painted fantasy-themed pictures.

The artwork includes illustrations he had published in many London magazines of the late 19th century, large oil fantasy art, landscapes, pen and ink drawings and etchings.

An example of Sidney Sime’s theatrical cartoons.

Sime drew theatrical caricatures from 1896 to 1898, and 23 political cartoons for Pick Me Up magazine in 1896 and 1897.

One of Sidney Sime’s Worplesdon caricatures.

He later drew caricatures of Worplesdon people while they were having a drink in the New Inn pub.

Sime’s Bogey Beasts was a book of pictures and verses by Sime with music by Josef Holbrooke.

The gallery is open on Wednesdays and Sundays, 2pm to 4pm, admission free.

It holds art activities for adults and children throughout the year, gives talks to local organisations, and hosts host a tea and talk sessions at the gallery.
