A new youth club has been started at All Saints’ Church in Onslow Village, supported by a £1,200 grant from the Bishop of Guildford’s Communities Fund.

The club will meet once a month, offering a variety of activities within a Christian ethos, including arts and crafts, music, computer games, cooking and games on a nearby field in the summer.

The club will be staffed by volunteers and a youth worker from the Matrix Trust, and will complement the Trust’s work at nearby Guildford County School.

The aim is to improve the health and well-being of young people in the local community and to help them grow in self-confidence and resilience.

The Revd Beverly Watson, vicar of All Saints’, said “We are very grateful for this grant, which will help us to reach out to young people in the local area. Our prayer is that we can offer young people a safe space, where they can learn and grow and develop within the love of God and his people at All Saints’.

The Bishop of Guildford’s Communities Fund exists to reach out to disadvantaged and vulnerable people across the Diocese of Guildford in the name of Christ.

Grants and practical support are offered to projects initiated by Church of England churches (and those in active partnership with them) to assist them to fulfil Goal 6 of the diocesan vision, Transforming Church, Transforming Lives: ‘Together to increase the range, professionalism and spiritual fruitfulness of our partnerships with the local community, to help create a stronger, fairer and more sustainable society.’
