Volunteer drivers needed for FareShare at its new warehouse in Guildford
Surplus food charity FareShare Sussex & Surrey is looking for volunteer drivers to help get surplus food to charities and community groups across the area from its new warehouse in Guildford.
Gemma Bradshaw, operations and volunteer co-ordinator, said: “Volunteers are the beating heart of our organisation ensuring we can provide surplus food to charities across the region. You don’t need any specific experience just a driving licence and ability to get to our Guildford warehouse.”
Jo Alex, who is a driver at FareShare’s Brighton warehouse, added: “I have now been driving for FareShare for a number of years, driving a few times a week in both the electric and diesel vans, delivering food all across Sussex. I get to meet some of the incredible charities we deliver to and have met some lovely people who I volunteer alongside. The staff are also fabulous, always making you feel valued.”

Voluntary Action’s new project to help those who need volunteers and supporting potential volunteers
Voluntary Action’s new project is Volunteer Connections. Its aim is to increase the level of volunteering among small charities and voluntary organisations in South West Surrey to enable them to deliver their services more effectively.
Its staff, Alice Sheppard, Kate Jones and Helena Routledge are providing one-to-one support to groups particularly short of volunteers, and in need of training to use digital platforms to promote volunteering opportunities.
They are hosting forums to connect organisations’ and charities’ volunteer co-ordinators who normally work in isolation, while training opportunities will aid recruitment and supervision of volunteers.
Another networking event is aimed at people who want to volunteer. It’s called Lunch and Learn and is on Thursday, July 18, 12.30pm to 1pm, online via Microsoft Teams. See poster below for details.
For details and to attend send an email to a.sheppard@vasws.org.uk. Tel: 07936 364336.
