Whilst there were some gaps on supermarket shelfs in Guildford today (Monday, March 9), staff said that there were no shortages despite heavy demand on some products.
There were reports in the national press and on social media that people were stockpiling toilet paper, hand sanitiser, pasta and tinned foods but that did not appear to be generally evident in Guildford.
There were some signs that specific stock had run out but there was no apparent rationing in the stores as had been reported in other parts of the country.
The government has said that there is no need for stockpiling. The situation is changing daily with prime minister Boris Johnson saying to the BBC: “I am confident we have fantastic supply chains. It is very important that everybody should behave responsibly and think about others.”

Hoarding should be a criminal offence.

Update. Just checked availability of home deliveries in Guildford. Nothing available from any supermarket until after Easter!!!
I enquired about foodbanks donations. “No, we’re fortunate we’ve got a local Waitrose for necessities like milk, eggs bread.” says she hopefully.
What was that about look after your elders and the vunerable.

I was appalled when i saw a pharmacy received a delivery of small 50cc bottles of hand sanitizer, they were for sale at £7 a bottle.
Is this the pharmacy or the supplier guilty of disgraceful profiteering?
