On Saturday, October 30, as darkness falls on the National Trust’s Dapdune Wharf in Guildford, families are challenged to test their fears and fitness by either running, walking or jogging around their haunted 2k course, where spooky surprises will be encountered along the way.
Visitors are welcome to arrive from 4.30pm, when there will be children’s craft activities and storytelling taking place and runners can also register at the ticket hut at this time and receive their race number.
The run will start at 6.30pm next to the tea room and the course will take runners around a haunted wharf and island. Medals will be awarded at the end of the race.
No booking is required. There will be a small charge of £3 per runner, which will go towards maintaining the River Wey Navigations, payable at the ticket hut on arrival.
A selection of warm snacks (including vegetarian options) and hot drinks will be available in the tea room, which has indoor and outdoor seating with views of the river.
Dressing up in a spooky costume is encouraged. A torch and footwear suitable for muddy paths is recommended.
Wharf Manager Victoria Stenning says, “A Hallowe’en tradition in pre-Covid years, we are looking forward to welcoming back visitors to our fun spooky event at Dapdune Wharf. Aimed at all abilities and ages, everyone is welcome to come and join in and we look forward to seeing some wicked witches, scary skeletons or even ghastly ghosts making their way around our haunted wharf.”
Parking will be available on site, however there are limited spaces and local visitors are encouraged to arrive by foot or by public transport. Dapdune Wharf is also a short walk from Guildford town centre where there is plenty of parking and a 10-minute walk from the railway station. There are bus stops nearby on Woodbridge Road.
