If your child is a keen doodler, this could be for them.

Cartoon Club for Kids was set up by Godalming artist and Creativity Coach Sarah Jane Vickery, with the aim of getting more kids sharing their love of cartoons – and ultimately, having fun while building creative confidence.

In response to the need for social distancing, Sarah is now offering her Cartoon Club for Kids class online. It’s a small friendly group that works together in an online platform and is open to anyone who likes to sit, doodle and dream up cartoons – and you can try your first class for free.

Cartoons are a way of engaging children’s imagination and Sarah’s approach to cartooning is about being curious, observant and experimental.

Drawing is really about learning to see. Each class takes children through the design process – discovering they can draw pictures they never imagined possible.

This method not only improves children’s drawing ability but also gives them the confidence to express their ideas visually and the skills to apply this thinking to other creative challenges.

The online class is designed to be very similar to the live Cartoon Club class; there is a cartooning challenge, a demonstration, and everyone gets doodling. You will see Sarah, her drawing board and fellow students in the online classroom – though you can turn off your video if you prefer to just watch.

You can ask questions, get feedback and share your work. You just need your sketchbook or paper and pencils to draw with.

Each week there is a different theme and lesson. Classes run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2pm to 3pm and are aimed at 8 to 12-year-olds, though all ages are welcome.
