Pianist, composer and singer-songwriter Belinda O’Hooley, is in concert at the Music Institute Folk Club at the Guildford Institute in Ward Street on Friday, March 27 at 8pm.
Her appearance is part of a UK tour to promote her new solo album Inversions.
Belinda is also half of four-time BBC Radio 2 Folk Award Best Duo nominees O’Hooley & Tidow alongside her wife Heidi Tidow.
Their song Gentleman Jack featured as the closing theme song for Sally Wainwright’s BBC drama series of the same name.
Belinda is also known for her inventive, minimalist, sometimes flamboyant accompanying of folk luminaries including Rufus Wainwright, Nic Jones, Jackie Oates and the Mercury nominated Rachel Unthank and The Winterset.
The new album, produced and recorded by Heidi Tidow, showcases Belinda’s abilities as a composer and pianist with many of the piano pieces inspired by the songs and tunes her late father inherited from a long line of male musicians from Monalea in the west of rural Ireland.
