Walking Rugby is a fitness innovation that promotes physical health through rugby-style exercise, including stretching, walking, ball-handling and passing skills and rugby drills – but with no scrums, lineouts or tackling! The sessions also promote mental health through rugby-style social activity.
Guildfordians Rugby Club is developing Walking Rugby in Guildford and it is open to all, regardless of age or gender. No previous Rugby experience is needed and current members range from “just stopped playing” to mid-70s.
New members are always welcome and for anyone wanting to have a go, Guildfordians is offering free introductory sessions.
Launched at the club in 2018 by veteran Guildfordians coach Roger Underwood, walking rugby is attracting new members to the club from Guildford and surrounding villages.
It’s a great form of exercise and, most importantly, lots of fun. Despite its name, walking rugby is a great cardio workout and caters for all speeds from slow and steady to as fast as you can walk keeping one foot on the ground at all times.
Sessions take place at Stoke Park (May to August), Charterhouse Club (September to April) and Chiddingfold Rec from mid-April.
