If you need Christmas tree ideas come to see the display at the United Reformed Church in Guildford (83 Portsmouth Road, GU2 4BS).
The church reports a record 36 Christmas trees have been decorated by local groups and are open tovisit from now until Christmas Eve. Each one is unique and includes decorations made by the members of the contributing group.
The original inspiration behind this event (in 2015) was to bring together the 30-plus community groups which meet regularly in the church’s many rooms. These range in age from the Little GURKins toddler group and Child’s Play pre-school to the Sunflower dementia group, and in subject matter from yoga and pilates through several choirs to a dozen 12-Steps (anonymous) groups catering for alcohol, narcotics, sex and other addictions.
In addition to the traditional Sunday morning congregation the church hosts a monthly open table including a network LBGT+ gathering and Guildford Muslim group for Friday prayers.
The front doors of the church will be open all day Monday to Thursday and at some other times – just walk in. Admission to all events is free.
If you feel like putting a small contribution in the collecting bucket all the donations will be shared between the Guildford Town Centre Chaplaincy to support Street Angels and Cherry Trees respite home for children at East Clandon, and look out for their trees too!
