Notice: Walk For Shooting Star Children’s Hospices This June

Published on: 28 May, 2021

Shooting Star Children’s Hospices wants people to join them throughout June to take on their own Virtual Sunrise Walk.

In doing so, you will support babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families, across Surrey and London.

From June 1 to 27, people can pick a day that suits them and their fellow walkers. For families, the charity has created an activity sheet to keep children occupied during and after the walk.

Whether you chose to walk 10km or 20km, take your own favourite route or follow the charity’s established Richmond upon Thames walk, or go more rural with the charity’s Guildford trail.

Emma Newman, a teacher at Portesbery School in Camberley, where several children that are supported by Shooting Star Children’s Hospices attend, is planning a 20km Sunrise Walk route with colleagues. They have raised £2,400 since 2015.

Emma said: “We really enjoy taking part in the Sunrise Walk and we know by taking part we are doing something to help. The service is a lifeline for so many of our parents.”

You can register online and walkers will receive a Sunrise Walk T-shirt. If you raise £100 you will receive a super shiny medal.

There will also be a Guildford Sunrise Walk on Sunday, October 17. The trail takes walkers along parts of the North Downs Way. Registration opens soon.
