Road diversions were put in place.

Surrey Police announced later: “Onslow Street has now been reopened following the earlier incident. Surrey Fire and Rescue requested our assistance in managing traffic so that they could use their aerial ladder platform to remove lead that had been identified by a window cleaner as dangerously loose.”

On Facebook, people were full of praise for the window cleaner.

One person commented: “Name and praise the window cleaner. Good people with a caring conscience are rare these days.”
