Lady’s clothes shop Phase Eight has moved to a new “flagship” store at 48 Guildford High Street.

The store opened its doors for the first time this morning (September 19), having relocated from its previous location in the Upper High Street.

Lee Harlow, managing director, said of the launch: “We are delighted to launch our new concept, flagship store in Guildford. Guildford’s High Street is a thriving shopping destination and our relocation to a bigger, central site ensures we are showcasing the very best of what our brand has to offer.

“We look forward to welcoming existing customers and new faces to the store and hope they love the feel of the store and of the new Autumn collections as much as we do.”

The press release states: “The greater store space allows for the display of the full contemporary day and occasionwear collections as well as a varied range of footwear and accessories. The store also features the premium, limited edition eveningwear range ‘Collection 8’ – an exquisite collection of long length, embellished gowns.”

Customers who visit the Guildford shop over opening weekend (Friday to Sunday, September 19 to 21) will be treated to a glass of complimentary fizz and 20% off its new season collections.

The business was launched in Wandsworth, London by Patsy Seddon in 1979. The brand currently has more than 400 points of sale in the UK and in international markets including Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Australia.

48 High Street was previously occupied by a branch of La Senza, a women’s lingerie shop which closed in 2012. The UK and Ireland franchise had been bought in 1998 by entrepreneur and Dragons’ Den star Theo Paphitis, who revived its fortunes and sold his stake to Lion Capital for £100m.

When the chain went into administration in 2012, Mr Paphitis mourned the decline of a “very profitable company”. It went into administration for a second time earlier this year.

I can only presume, given the liberal use of the North American “store” to refer to a “shop”, that The Guildford Dragon NEWS has branched out to cover international news. Presumably this is discussing important developments from Guildford, Connecticut, USA rather than Guildford, Surrey, United Kingdom?

Touché Mr Soaper, although I would not say a single occurrence demonstrates “liberal use”. All other mentions are from Phase Eight’s press release, so direct quotes.
