The current view across the Debenhams site from the Town Bridge.

By Martin Giles

Views of the town centre from across the River Wey that have not been visible for sixty years have been opened up once again now the demolition of Debenhams is practically complete.

But those curious to see them for themselves should take advantage. It won’t be too long before construction of the St Mary’s Wharf development will commence.

The view from Millmead car park.

Such views of St Mary’s, the Saxon tower of which is the oldest structure in Guildford, have not been seen for decades.

Another view of St Mary’s where Lewis Carroll once preached.

The view towards the High Street.

A reminder of how the Debenhams building looked before demolition commenced.

And how it looked, viewed from Millmead, soon after it was built in the 1960s. David Rose collection.

Finally, a CGI of the anticipated St Mary’s Wharf development. Construction is expected to commence later his year. Image Squire and Partners
