Plenty of Goals – But City Lose Away

There were plenty of goals for the neutrals present. Indeed, there were four scored in
the first 20 minutes of the match.

Guildford couldn’t have had a better start when in the second minute of the match East Preston’s debutant goalkeeper Harry Teasel
couldn’t stop Harry Hennem’s volley from the edge of the box.

Minutes later Josh Williams effort was pushed away by Teasel and the home side quickly recovered their composure, their wide players regularly putting dangerous balls into the box. City’s goalie Jacob Slyfield was forces to save well before another low cross fizzed through the danger area.

East Preston’s equaliser came on 13 minutes. Another low cross caused problems, and the loose ball was fired home.

Three minutes later they had taken the lead. A neat back heel in the box was set up to shoot low into the net.

Throughout the game East Preston’s front players looked dangerous and on 20 minutes it was 3-1 when a defender was turned and the ball fired into the roof of the net.

Guildford did relieve the pressure by scoring again against the run of play. Harry Hennem played Dan Way in on the left and his shot found the back of the net via a deflection.

This lifted City and a great run and cross by Rory Cornelius should have had better reward. Harry Hennem also had a great chance, but a momentary delay meant the opening was lost.

Just prior to the break defender Jake Raffaelli was stretchered from the field of play to be replaced by new signing Andrew Hewitt.

Within two minutes of the restart Guildford were level. An excellent arcing corner was headed home by Dan Rolland.

Soon after City had a golden chance to take the lead. Nice work by Josh Williams saw him bearing down on goal. While deciding his best course of action he ended up failing to get a shot away and Harry Teasel saved at his feet. There were appeals for a penalty, but a great chance had gone.

As so often happens on these occasions Guildford were soon made to pay when a dipping 25-yarder beat Slyfield and found the back of the net.

So again, City were in search of an equaliser, and they came close when Josh Williams low drive was saved for a corner by Teasel. The visitors pushed players forward in search of a goal.

East Preston enjoyed the extra space and consequently scored a fifth.

Jacob Slyfield then saved well late on and in stoppage time the home side blazed over from a good position. There was no doubting the effort from the City players but on this day they conceded too much possession which against East Preston’s lively forwards made life difficult.
