Police Confirm Suspicious Device Was 12-inch Hollow Metal Pipe

Surrey Police has concluded a search in Old Farm Road, Slyfield Green, following reports of a suspicious device being found at the address on Saturday afternoon (February 9).

Officers from Hampshire Constabulary were conducting a search of the premises in relation to another matter when they found a 12-inch hollow metal pipe which appeared to be a suspicious device. Surrey officers attended the scene, along with colleagues from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD).

A number of firearms were recovered from the property and checks are currently being carried out to check that the occupant of the address held the correct licences for these.

The RSPCA was also called to assist in the search after a number of animals, including ponies, rabbits, a dog and a number of birds of prey were found at the address.

One of the birds was removed from the property after concerns were raised about the conditions in which it was being kept and checks into the animals’ welfare remain ongoing.

The area was cordoned off while the checks were carried out.

A 44-year-old man from Guildford and a 35-year-old woman from Guildford were arrested and have been released on bail pending further enquiries, to return to Guildford police station on February 18.
