Surrey police are appealing for the public’s help to recover a vintage Sunlight Soap enamel sign, which was was stolen from the garden of the King’s Head pub in Kings Road, Guildford.
The sign went missing on Sunday, August 31, at around 2am.
The police said in a statement: “We are keen to reunite this item with its rightful owner.
“If you have any information, or if you see the item advertised online, please contact us quoting PR/45250107043, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
On the Internet, similar signs dating from the 1940s can fetch a few hundred pounds. The sign is an old advertisement with a gimmick: £1,000 is offered to anyone who can prove that Sunlight Soap contained any harmful impurities.
After the theft, the King’s Head put up a post on social media, saying a man in a hoodie had been caught on CCTV.

I have sent a link to the article to an FB group of Enamel Sign Collectors and Dealers and asked if they could pass the link on to other groups with similar interests.
