Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, visited the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford yesterday (September 22) to find out about the challenges facing regional theatres during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Guided by Joanna Read, director & chief executive, the Earl had a tour of the theatre, learnt about the measures put in place to keep staff and audiences safe, and met with staff and a group of actors to find out how they are adapting to socially-distanced performances.

A theatre spokesperson said: “We are extremely grateful to the Earl for taking the time to visit us and to our wonderful friends Michael Cochrane, Patricia Hodge, Penelope Keith, Yolande Ovide and Jenny Seagrove for taking the time to join us.”

And afterwards, he popped into the County Club, with security people in tow obviously. I hope that he enjoyed a pint or two. Nice to see that he is a real gentleman.
