They took part in a workshop with the artist who has designed the sculpture, Charles Normandale, and his team.

The Deputy Mayor of Guildford, Gordon Jackson, called in to see how the work was progressing.

Silver Shoon is the name of the sculpture, and the Year 4 pupils created a colourful 5m long frieze, with a collage of their designs of freshwater fish that live in the River Wey. Their ideas will be inspirational in the creation of the final sculpture.

The artist and his team are holding workshops within the local community and the school to raise awareness of the project and get feedback from local people.

Guildford Borough Council has commissioned the piece of public art for the riverside area at Woodbridge Meadows.

It represents the natural environment of the river with giant ‘reeds’ and fish native to the river.

The hand-forged steel artwork will be easy to maintain, durable and able to withstand flooding. The new sculpture is fully-funded from Section 106 developer contributions for art.
