Surrey has a new radio station, Lite RADIO which carries the strapline “Bringing local radio back to Surrey”.

Test broadcasting online and on DAB radio commenced yesterday (December 7) before its official launch on Monday, December 13.

Director Matt Cadman was the first voice to be heard. He has been able to realise his ambition having won a digital radio licence from the regulator Ofcom.

Matt who grew up and has worked around Surrey has experience of launching successful local radio stations. He said: “We have been absolutely overwhelmed by the support from the local community and I’d like to, first of all, say thank you to everybody.

“Local radio is such a vital tool of communication within an area and it has been our ambition for a while to be the first people to bring local radio back to Surrey”.

Lite RADIO will play a mixture of light music from the 80s through to today and aims to be “the perfect radio station to have on throughout the workday with topical chat and local information”.

As a not-for-profit station, but with a team of experienced broadcasters, Lite, hopes to be at the forefront of public service and aims to work alongside existing organisations supporting local events. The Guildford Dragon NEWS and Lite RADIO will be exploring areas of common ground to see if there is a possibility of working together.
