Train services at Guildford station were suspended yesterday while the BTP investigated a suspicious package found in the station. A bomb disposal team was called in.

It was reported that a suspicious package was delivered to British Transport Police’s office at the station. A 100-metre cordon was placed around the package while the controlled explosion was prepared and carried.

All routes through the station were closed for the duration of the alert and replacement bus services introduced at short notice.

A spokesperson for South Western Trains said: “Services through the station resumed at 1.36pm.”
