The Royal Surrey County Hospital is providing 100 extra parking spaces for out-patients and visitors in a bid to ease congestion at the busy site in Guildford.
The bays will be created after more spaces have been provided for staff-parking off-site.
But the hospital is now working with a developer on proposals to build a single-decked car-park in the grounds and deciding on the best site that would minimise disruption for out-patients, visitors and staff. Completion is planned by Christmas 2020.
Ross Dunworth, the hospital finance director, said: “Car-parking can be challenging and frustrating for staff, patients and our visitors and we are working hard to improve the provision for all.”
Each year, the Royal Surrey admits approximately 90,000 patients, with 74,000 attending the Accident and Emergency Department. Three thousand babies are born.
The hospital has recently been rated as “Good” by the Care Quality Commission for being caring, effective, safe, and well-led, as well as “Outstanding” for being responsive to people’s needs and for maternity services.
