After nearly a century of bootmaking, R M Williams is bringing Australian craftsmanship into the heart of Guildford.
Ben Fereday, the manager of the new store on the corner of the famous and historic High Street and Chapel Street, said the opening on Thursday, April 2 was a great success and “drew lots of people into our store.
“Our iconic Chelsea boot is made to last, being made from one piece of leather and with only one seam. They are hand crafted as they were almost 100 years ago, using Goodyear welted construction.”
Why come to Guildford? “Demand was there for the brand” said Ben, “and we’ve had new interest and returning customers to our products and other shops have asked for it to be stocked. The style of the brand suits the country town style of Guildford.
“R M Williams is a huge brand in footwear, a staple piece in the fashion world in Australia and this is developing on the UK.”
All of the legendary R M Williams boots are made in Australia and have a distinctive Australian appeal. With the wide range of products and accessories being offered by the company, the vision is to bring the craftsmanship in the clothing back to Australia.
With stores in Jermyn Street, Bond Street and Soho in London and in Edinburgh, Bath, Cambridge, Marlow and now Guildford, R.M. Williams are clearly going for the higher end of the market.
Services in the Guildford shop include master boot fitting, complimentary boot polishing, repairs and restoration and leather debossing personalisation.
The shop at 70 High St, Guildford, GU1 3HE is open seven days a week from 10am to 6pm and 11am to 5pm on Sunday.
Ben said: “We look forward to welcoming you to our new shop in Guildford and introducing you to the craftsmanship that defines R.M.Williams.”
