After this year’s local elections and knowing Monika Juneja was due to appear at The Old Bailey on Monday 11 May, my wife and I decided to relax the following day at Arundel Castle Cricket Ground. To our delight the cricket match was between teams from Private Eye and BBC Local News.

I had a chat with editor Ian Hislop about the negativity of politicians during the recent elections both nationally and local ones. I then got talking to his industrial reporter and he said Mr Hislop insisted all articles in the magazine were as accurate as possible to avoid costly libel actions.

On returning home and knowing the outcome of the guilty plead by Monika Juneja, I decided to drop a line to Private Eye suggesting they report this in their Rotten Boroughs column.

I added that activities involving our local politicians may eventually lead to repercussions. I was delighted when in The Eye’s next issue they included this.

This week I sent them another message about our council leader’s resignation and mentioned The Guildford Dragon’s excellent continuous coverage of this news.
