Former England international Jean Head (nee Winn), from Merton, passed away peacefully on September 2 aged 94.
Jean reached one of the four area finals of the renowned Daily Mirror competition, only to lose to twice world doubles champion Diane Rowe. Entries were around 10,000 for four events,
She reached England number 3. When you consider that England had several players in the world top 10 at the time this was quite some achievement. As a member of England’s Corbillon Cup team, Jean reached the pinnacle of her playing days when the quartet came third, earning Jean a World Championship bronze medal. Our condolences go to all Jean’s family.
