In response to: MPs’ Report Highlights the Guildford Dragon’s Fight for Survival

The Guildford Dragon NEWS has very much filled a gap in local reporting in Guildford and helped keep democracy alive at the grassroots level.

Everyone is busy but it is not enough just to elect councillors in the hope that they represent the interests of residents. We need to know what our representatives are doing as sometimes mistakes are made and sometimes local politics is out of line with what is good for the borough.

This is where local news media and The Dragon play a vital role.

Think of the errors in communication by SCC concerning the proposed change to London Road, as acknowledged by the Leader of SCC, and the disorganization in the local Liberal Party over the North Street development.

The reporting on these events by The Dragon, has undoubtedly helped residents shape their response to these actions.

The Dragon NEWS and other similar local media should receive help. They provide a vital public service.

The Dragon is so good at bringing local issues to the fore. It complements other channels of debate – it would be a tremendous loss if it disappeared.
