The Garden Room, Guildford
Tucked away somewhat in Sydenham Road, The Garden Room is, however, a popular eatery, being next door to the busy Castle Car Park.
It was indeed busy when we popped in on the morning of New Year’s Eve, with all kinds of people – from mums with their children to individuals enjoying a coffee and snack while hunched over their laptops.
It seems as if The Garden Room attracts a wide range of customers, and come rain or shine you will hopefully receive a warm welcome as we did by the friendly waitress who served us.
Not surprisingly the interior takes the form of a garden theme with conservatory style furniture. The atmosphere was good and lively. From the menu on the table we ordered two Americano coffees, a lemon flavoured muffin and an almond croissant. The coffees we rated as above average for Guildford, the muffin was good, while the croissant tasted good but was a little mushy. But it was all very good value for money.
There is not a wifi connection, but plenty of newspapers to read. The loos were modern, but the gents did have a couple of tissues left on the floor. But of course they could have been dropped moments before I went in. The motor on the hand drier was a bit slow, meaning it took a while for one’s hands to dry!
But don’t let that put you off. There is a good menu at this eatery for lunches, snacks and teas with plenty to offer vegetarians.

I like this cafe. I’ve been in nearly every day since it opened some years ago.
