The Tea Terrace at House of Fraser

Head skywards to the top of Guildford’s House of Fraser store to The Tea Terrace, a delightful restaurant with great views over the town and beyond.

Everything is nicely presented at The Tea Terrace.

It’s spacious and light having been refurbished (again) fairly recently. Now the colour scheme features lots of pastel pinks, blues and yellows.

It’s not the cheapest place around for a drink and a snack. A pot of tea for one is £3, while a regular filter coffee sets you back £2.20. It comes in a small, but nice, china cup.

Cake, such as caramel slices and cinnamon whirls, cost £2.50. The slice was nice, but the whirl was a below par. The coffee, however, was rather good.

If you fancy something a little more substantial, on the breakfast and elevenses menu while we were there, was a breakfast scone (£3.95), scrambled eggs on toast (£4.50), or a full English for £6.50.

In fine weather you can enjoy the stunning views from the outside eating area and gaze at the themed water garden.

In recent times the eatery was an Albert Roux establishment that opened when House of Fraser underwent a substantial revamp in the 1990s. There is seating outside is alongside the much older roof garden and water features.

The garden was created in 1958 by Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe. It is Grade II listed and was designed as a “sky garden”. Its theme is to unite heaven and earth with the sensation of being poised between the two.
