The Travellers at Bannisters Field.

A group of travellers have occupied an area of Bannister’s Field by Egerton Road, near the Tesco supermarket.

Local Councillor Julia McShane (Lib Dem, Westborough) has posted on Facebook: “The council are aware of them [the travellers] and I understand that they are just passing through, staying a couple of days to access health care at the hospital for their sick and a pregnant lady.

“The council have provided them with a skip and bin bags for their rubbish together with portaloos which will arrive tomorrow. The situation will be monitored and their welfare assessed together with a daily visit of the site from the Parks Department.”

It is understood that the council, which owns the site,  is legally bound to provide the amenities mentioned in Cllr McShane’s statement.

My 32 years experience says, crime will increase, fear and intimidation will follow, unlicensed , uninsured vehicles on our roads, perhaps whilst they are using the NHS facilities. The rest of us can fill out their tax returns and pay tax on our earnings.

Other than that they are welcome to visit Guildford.
