The Tunsgate Quarter redevelopment has been set back to February 2018. Originally scheduled for opening in October 2017, the extensive work planned is taking longer than expected.
Large sections of the building are being demolished and rebuilt as well as the reconfiguration of the space and the installation of a new steel and glazed roof.
An atrium is to be built in the centre of the space, which is in keeping with the design aiming to make the most of the views of Guildford in the surrounding area.
The delay will also allow architects to further develop the desired “art-deco” aesthetic the project is centred around.
Stuart Harris, commercial director and co-founder of the developer, Queensberry, said: “Due to the complex nature of the build and the desire to open the scheme fully finished, and to the highest specification, we have decided to defer the opening of Tunsgate Quarter until February 2018.
“This will enable us to ensure that both our tenants and visitors enjoy the best quality experience in fantastic surroundings with a great choice of shops, cafes, and restaurants”
Tunsgate Quarter will cover 80,000 sq ft and comprise of 26 units in total, which includes 18 retail units and 8 restaurants. A number of brands, including The Ivy Collection, Oka, Loaf, The White Company, Bobbi Brown and Cath Kidston will be joining the scheme, as well as 10 residential apartments.
The precise opening date is expected to be announced in September 2017.
