Surrey police have thanked a van driver who gave a police officer a lift as he was running after a suspect.

Officers were in Woking Road in Guildford on Tuesday (November 3) when they saw someone they suspected of stealing from a nearby shop. The suspect had made off on a bicycle.

A police constable gave chase on foot when a van driver stopped to offer a lift.

Police said: “Working together, the van driver and officer were able to spot where the suspect had gone and get ahead of him, allowing the officer to jump out and make the arrest. Teamwork makes the dream work.”

On social media, people were full of praise for the van driver and the police. One post said: “Great job by all involved. Keep up the good work.”
