Voluntary Action South West Surrey is Seeking Trustees and a Treasurer

Voluntary Action South West Surrey, which helps to strengthen the local voluntary and community sector, is seeking new trustees and a treasurer.

It plays a key role across the boroughs of Guildford and Waverley, being to go-to place for people who need help and advice to find the right volunteer role for them.

It also operates a social prescribing service on behalf of the NHS with a team of link workers who engage with patients to support them with a plan which can be a series of signposting or referrals to support in the community, in order to improve their health and wellbeing.

Voluntary Action also provides a range of advice to charities, organisations and community groups that includes good governance and advice on fundraising.

It is a charity itself and is a council for voluntary services, in that the work it does is on behalf of local authorities.

With impending retirements of the current chair of the board of trustees, a new chair and new members of the board are required and also for the position of treasurer.

The board of trustees at Voluntary Action meet four times a year. It is seeking people who have more than three years experience in any of the following areas – governance, strategic development and planning, human resources, health and safety and safeguarding.

For the treasurer role, a person with many years of experience in accountancy is required.

Voluntary Action is extremely well run with two joint-chief executive officers, both of whom have been with Voluntary Action for over 10 years. Other staff also have much experience of the voluntary sector, and it’s a busy and invaluable community-focused service indeed!

In February Voluntary Action moved from Castle Street, Guildford (where it had been based since 2008) to offices at Old Millmead, within Guildford Borough Council’s premise.
