Volunteer Opportunities at Phyllis Tuckwell’s New Hospice

Phyllis Tuckwell is recruiting volunteers to help at its new hospice in Farnham, opening this spring.

It is holding a recruitment day on Friday, January, 23, noon to 6pm, at its Headway House office in Farnham.

The charity needs volunteer receptionists to greet patients and families as they arrive, and to answer phone calls and manage deliveries. Flexible shifts are available, whether that’s weekly or fortnightly.

Phyllis Tuckwell’s volunteer drivers take patients to and from its ‘living well’ sessions.

Volunteer drivers (with a full driving licence) are needed to take patients to and from its ‘living well’ sessions, held at the hospice in Farnham and the Beacon Centre in Guildford.

Home support volunteers really brighten patients day. Each volunteer is matched with a patient whom they visit once a week, to help them go out for a walk, take them shopping, or simply sit and have a chat with them over a cup of tea.

Volunteers are also needed to arrange flowers to brighten the new hospice corridors, serve patients, relatives and staff in the hospice’s new coffee shop, and help out in Phyllis Tuckwell’s local shops.

Voluntary services manager Julia Morpeth said: “Our volunteers make such a difference to the lives of our patients and their loved ones, and get so much joy and fulfilment themselves from their role.

“Whatever volunteering role you choose, we will give you initial and ongoing training and support, and you’ll know that you’re making a real difference to those in our care.”

The recruitment day is a drop-in event for anyone who would like to find out more about volunteering for Phyllis Tuckwell. If you are unable to attend but would still like to know more, you can contact its voluntary services team on 01252 729400, email voluntary.services@pth.org.uk or click here to apply.
