Voluntary Action South West Surrey is hosting a new pilot scheme in conjunction with Surrey County Council.
Volunteer Alcohol Health Champions’ aim is to raise awareness about the harm that can be brought on by drinking alcohol and to give brief advice and sign-posting options of where help can be found.
Hilary Holness is the co-ordinator for the project and volunteers are being recruited whose role will be to liaise with Voluntary Action’s existing partner charities, organisations, community and faith-based groups, plus investigate some new ones, across the boroughs of Guildford and Waverley.
Volunteers are being recruited who are enthusiuastic and motivated in raising awareness of the harmful effects of alcohol consumption within their own charity, organisation or community group, plus can give advice to friends, colleagues and clients.
Hilary said: “I am compiling a list of people who express an interest. We can then get a date in the diary and a location to deliver a day of some expertly-led free training.
“I hope that as soon as I have sufficient numbers, we will be able to book our first training session in October, which will be followed by ongoing support.

Thank you for publishing this article about the recruitment of Alcohol Health Champions. It is a subject about which I am truly passionate and have lived experience. I look forward to working with volunteers across Guildford and Waverley to increase alcohol awareness and impact our local community.
