Visit Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village over the summer holidays (until August 29, 10.30am to 4pm) and make arts and crafts inspired by the colours and patterns in the summer exhibition, John Frederick Lewis: Facing Fame.

John Frederick Lewis, In the Bey’s Garden, 1865. Oil on canvas. Harris Museum, Art Gallery & Library, Preston.

From clay camels and plaster cast shells to embossed foil design and geometric printmaking, explore different materials and create something special to take home. All activities are drop-in and free with admission (adults £11.50, under 18s go free).

After getting creative, explore Watts Gallery’s collections, estate and summer exhibition together by picking up one of their free, interactive family trails.

You’re never too old or too young to be creative.

Go on Pursuit of Pattern in John Frederick Lewis: Facing Fame, or take a journey around the Artists’ Village with quizzes, games and tactile objects by picking up the Artists’ Village Backpack. The popular 5 Things for Under 5s trail also helps even the littlest ones get involved and excited about art.

Make the most of the sunshine by enjoying swings, stepping stones and building camps in the Verey Playwood. Play hide-and-seek in the Watts Woodland, before following the winding path to the Limnerslease lawn for a picnic.

Eat delicious, seasonal food in the family-friendly Tea Shop or take away an ice cream or other tasty treat to enjoy outside. The Tea Shop has highchairs and also offers a range of vegan and gluten-free options.

Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village is only a short drive from the centre of Guildford and provides free parking. Visit on bank holiday Monday August 26 and receive half-price adult admission (£5.75).
