In the Chinese Year of the Monkey, Bamboo Shoots in Jeffries Passage, Guildford, is definitely one to try for eating in or taking away.
It is getting great reviews for good value and for the food being “fresh, tasty, light and generously portioned”.
Bamboo Shoots opened in October (in the premises that was previously Quarks Internet Café) and proprietors, Dennis and Alice Hayler, say: “We are the place to come to if you want a quick, affordable, tasty, healthy lunch.”
The staff are part of a small team and very friendly. Dennis says that he looks for the most dedicated and dependable people, full of initiative and intelligence and for those who want to give great customer orientated service.
Again, if the reviews are anything to go by, he is undeniably succeeding.
The menu is healthy and varied. It is based on Dennis and Alice’s extensive experience of working in Asia. Dennis says: “This has fuelled our passion and knowledge of Asian cuisine and our desire to offer it to others.”
All dishes have been developed by Dennis’ wife Alice Li who moved to England 15 years ago.
Bamboo Shoots offers noodle and rice dishes, all cooked to order without additives, preservatives or MSG.
Many dishes are less than 3% fat, as tested by trading standards who have granted the restaurant the Gold standard Eat Out Eat Well.
The restaurant only uses free range eggs and offers wholemeal rice and white rice for a healthy option.
It also offer steam buns, loose leaf tea and teapots with 60 types of tea.
