This evening’s sunset was rather spectacular (June 30) and followed what had been a rather hot day.

Certainly ‘Flaming June’ as the month came to a close.

This image was taken by Dragon News writer David Rose at the top of Rydes Hill at 8.06pm.

The view taken from a field to the right of Rydes Hill Common looks across to Ash Ranges on the horizon.

It complements our story also published today in which Roger Edwards recalls the summer of 1945 at Rydes Hill and the end of war victory parties.

The Met Office’s predictions for the next few day’s weather is as follows:

Wednesday: Fine and sunny for most. Isolated thunderstorms may develop, mainly in the west, perhaps becoming more widespread across northern England and Scotland later. Widely hot but locally very hot.

Thursday, outbreaks of rain with possible thunder.

Fine at first on Friday, becoming very warm with thundery outbreaks.

Clearer, fresher conditions following for Saturday.
