The new scout hut in Ash Vale

The scout hut in Carrington Lane Recreation Ground in Ash Vale has finally been rebuilt – after many years of unsuccessful grant applications.

The 1st Blackwater Valley Scouts are delighted to finally have a new headquarters.

To help pay for the rebuild, Surrey county councillors Fiona White and Carla Morson used money from their SCC members’ allocation from the Your Fund Surrey Small Community Fund.  As the scout hut was in poor condition, they felt it was appropriate to help this community initiative.

Six weeks after the grant was confirmed a local contractor started to rebuild the hut within the budget of that grant. The project was completed in two months.

Cllr Morson said: “Cllr White and I were delighted to be able to assist this project and finally get it to the stage where the scouts have a much better facility.”

The amount of the grant was just under £80,000.

On Saturday, November 22, a plaque inside the new Scout hut will be unveiled by the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Mr. Michael More-Molyneux.

He will be accompanied by the member of the Your Fund Surrey who facilitated the application as well as the two Lib Dem councillors, Fiona White and Carla Morson, who supported it. Also present will be the owner of Keen Construction, the local company that undertook the project.
