Surrey Police have said on a FaceBook page: “We have had reports from our colleagues in the fire service that they are currently dealing with a heathland fire around the Normandy area.

“Please can all residents bear in mind the thick smoke in the area and we are advising residents to close windows and doors.”

Earlier Surrey Fire & Rescue Tweeted: “We are currently in attendance at a fire in the open near Henley Park after receiving the initial call at 11.28am.

“We have 12 fire and rescue vehicles there, including specialist units. Please avoid the area and those nearby should close windows and doors.”

We have been unable to contact anyone at Surrey Fire & Rescue Services but they have now Tweeted that the fire has been at Henley Park and is now under control.
