Report by Geoff Sheldon
Sunday, June 27 saw a colourful spectacle at Burpham Bowling Club when the president’s and captains’ day event took place.
Thirty-six club members in four teams took part in a round robin competition. Each team adopted a different colour resulting in a very colourful scene on the green.
The previous few days had seen warm sunshine but the weather took a dramatic turn on Sunday with rain showers, and thunder threatened.
Nevertheless, the day’s play was completed with just a short early rain break.
President Geoff Sheldon’s team, in red, finished a close second to the club captain Alan Mogg’s blue team, who carried off the new trophy.
The mens and ladies captains’ teams in green and yellow completed the set.
Observing the Covid rules some members stayed on afterwards to share a snack and enjoy the facilities of the recently refurbished clubhouse.
More than £400 was raised on the day for the Guildford Lions Club, the day’s nominated charity.
Within the constraints of the Covid restrictions the club’s competitions programme is in full swing this season. We are also participating in competition programmes-run Bowls England, Bowls Surrey and the West Surrey Bowling Association, which were suspended last year.
