Burpham Church Arson Attack – Local Man Arrested

The Police confirmed today (29 May) that an 18-year-old man has been arrested and bailed in connection with an arson attack on a church in the Burpham area of Guildford earlier this month.

The local teenager is due to report back on 5 July 2012 pending further forensic investigation and enquiries.

The Church of the Holy Spirit in New Inn Lane was targeted during the early hours of Saturday, 12 May. During the incident hymn books, leaflets, a computer monitor and a chair were put together in a pile and set alight.

A candle on the altar was lit, a fire extinguisher was torn down and writing was found on the floor.  In total £3,400 worth of damage was caused as a result of the offence.
