Historians and house detectives Phil and Sally Gorton are researching the history of a row of four Victorian cottages in Withies Lane, Compton.

Puttock's Cottages in Withies Land, Compton. Can you add any details, particularly about the familes who once lived in them?

They are putting out a call for any additional information people may have of them and those who lived there down the years.

Phil said: “Puttock’s Cottages were built in the summer of 1886 by Moses Puttock, a Guildford businessman, as an investment.

“The houses themselves were lived in by various families over the decades including Budd, Heather, Pink and Edwards, but the name Horlock is particularly prominent as they lived there for many years, both in the cottages themselves and in the old house that pre-dated them.

“We would like to make contact with anyone who has a connection with the cottages or with Moses Puttock and would love to find any photographs of the houses or the people connected with them.”
