Along with it being the hottest June day in the UK since 1976, a car was burnt out on Woodbridge Hill, Guildford this afternoon (June 21).
It was parked behind Coral bookmakers and was seen to be on fire at about 1.30pm.
It was photographed by Ashley Carvalho shortly before firefighters arrived. Mr Carvalho had time to move his car away from the blazing vehicle.
Woodbridge Hill resident Mike Ellis took this picture as a firefighter extinguished the blaze.
The cause has not yet been made known.
Elsewhere, the Met Office recorded a temperature of 34.5C (94F) at Heathrow Airport today.
It is predicting temperatures will fall slightly along with the threat of thunderstorms tomorrow (Thursday).
Resurfacing work is being undertaken on a section of the A31 on the Hog’s Back, between Guildford and Farnham, after parts of the road surface melted on Monday due to the heat.
Lane two of the westbound A31 between the Farnham Road junction and Puttenham is currently closed.
Surrey County Council is expecting to fully resurface the road from Thursday (June 22) and hopes to do this under a night time closure from 8pm to 6am.
