Benedictine Monks at St Augustine’s Abbey in Chilworth welcomed 20 members of the Guildford University of The Third Age (u3a) on April 22. The third age students visit religious places as part of their chosen activity.
Dom Andrew, who gave a talk to the visitors in the monastery’s Grade II listed, Victorian Abbey Church, also answered the group’s many questions.
“What it’s like being a monk?” took the top slot for the main area of questioning and many were interested to learn that the Catholic Abbey Church is open to the public daily 365 days a year for Mass and Divine Office to all those of faith and none.
A number of the visitors also enjoyed looking at the monastery’s shop, which sells many monk-made products, including beeswax skin creams, lip blams and furniture polish. You are all welcome to visit again!
